This warming delicious latte is perfect for a cold morning.

I'm addicted to coffee. There, I said it.

Nothing compares to the smell of fresh brew in my Moka Pot coffee maker.

But this past week, with the chilly fall mornings, I find myself craving something more indulging.

I'm also certain that a break from the dark drink will be very beneficial for my body.

Chai Latte is the definition of an indulging morning drink. I like to make the effort and use my homemade almond milk. If you want to incorporate the chai into your daily routine, I would recommend making a large batch of spice mix and store in an airtight container.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups homemade almond milk
  • 0.5 tsp ground cardamom (or 3 cardamom pods)
  • 0.25 tsp ground ginger (or 1 tbsp grated/sliced fresh ginger)
  • 1 pinch ground fennel seeds (or 0.25 whole seeds)
  • 0.25 tsp ground cloves (or 3 whole cloves)
  • 1 pinch ground pepper (or 4 peppercorns)
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon (or 2 cinnamon sticks)
  • 2 tsp high quality Assam tea

Optional additions

  • Maple syrup / cane sugar
  • Frothed almond milk
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Star anise

Instructions

  1. Place the milk, cardamom, ginger, fennel, cloves, peppercorns, and cinnamon in a small saucepan over medium heat and bring to light boiling and reduce the heat.

  2. Add the tea and sweetener of choice (I usually prefer not to add a sweetener to my morning drink), and cook for 1 more minute.

  3. Remove from the stove and strain into mugs. Serve with your preferred topping.

Notes:

  • If using ground spices, you can make a large batch of spice mix and store it in an airtight container.
